Illinois Assisted Living Center Sued for Wrongful Termination

Staff Writer, April 17, 2009

A woman from Illinois was recently fired from her job at an assistant living center in Madison County when she reported patient abuse to her supervisors. According to the employee, she had questioned her employers about blood on one of the patient’s faces and their failure to treat it.

She also complained about the failure of other employees at Beverly Farm Foundations to clean the patients and their rooms. She told her higher-ups that she had witnessed several other employees swapping clothes among the residents and only allowing one resident out of his room twice each day.

The home where the woman works provides 24-hour assistance to physically and mentally handicapped individuals. When she interfered with the treatment of the patients and reported the behaviors of her fellow employees to her superiors, the woman was fired. One of her supervisors who had received her complaint headed the investigation that lead to her termination from the home’s committee.

She is now suing the assisted living home for $100,000 to cover lost wages and will also ask for a repayment of court fees and other relevant costs. She filed a suit against the home and also against the woman in charge of her termination on March 23 in the Madison County Circuit Court.
