People obtaining employment in the state of Arizona are protected under laws protected under Arizona Labor Law. These laws protect people seeking employment, people who are already employed, and retirees from being treated unfairly. Under Arizona Labor Law an employer cannot base their decision to employ or promote an employee or prospective employee on race, age, sex, religion, national origin, or a disability. Furthermore, Arizona Labor Law states that an interviewer cannot ask certain questions during the interview that have to do with the place a candidate was born, his/her sexual orientation, or his/her marital, paternal, or maternal status. Not only do employers under Arizona Labor Law must abide by the requirements, they also have to produce a handbook that gives the employee information on his/her rights under the law.
