Disability Discrimination Act 1995

The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 was founded by the United Kingdom Parliament. The act prohibits the discrimination of individuals based on how a disability relates to employment. The act covers everything from provisions to transportation. A civil rights law, the act is similar to those found in other countries that cover social rights issues. The Disability Discrimination Act 1995 is supported by the Equality and Human Rights Commission. Despite the stern tone of the law, the act maintains it is acceptable for employers to require a reasonable set of medical criteria to qualify for employment. Furthermore, the act allows employers to expect acceptable performance from each employee providing reasonable adjustments have been implemented to address a disability.
