International Health Work

"International health", also called "geographic medicine" or "global health", is a field of health care. It has a public health emphasis and deals with health and medical care across regional or national boundaries. Professionals and organizations that specialize in international health provide health care from one area or nation to another, and are interested in global processes that impact human health. Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) perform much of the international health care that occurs around the world. Their services include direct health care, community potable water, vitamin supplementation, and the alleviation of malnutrition and endemic and epidemic infectious diseases. Church groups, organizations, and denominations have also been involved in international health care. The American Medical Students Association (AMSA) recognizes "the promotion of world health as an important and justifiable humanitarian concern".
