Michigan Labor Law

Like all other states, Michigan Labor Laws must meet or exceed federal level protections afforded workers. Some of these protections mentioned by the federal government and state-level Michigan laws include provisions for the protection of worker's rights to family and medical leave, protections for military members in the workplace, wage and overtime laws, child labor laws, healthcare coverage continuation, and other employment benefits laws. For example, employers in the state of Michigan cannot discriminate against an employee in any way due to wage garnishments from creditors or child support. As of July 1st, 2008, Michigan state minimum wage stood at $7.40, which was above federal minimum wage standards. In addition, the minimum cash wage for tipped employees in the state of Michigan stood at $2.65 as of July 1st, 2008.
