Missouri Employment Law

The Department of Labor ("DOL") is a federal agency that enforces laws applicable to employers and employees. As a whole, the DOL enforces over 180 federal laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act ("FLSA") which regulates issues such as wages and work hours of employees. Many states, including Missouri, have enacted their own labor laws to bolster the protections afforded by Federal regulations. Missouri employment law is overseen by the Missouri Division of Workers' Compensation ("Division") which enforces the regulations of the Missouri Workers' Safety Program ("MWSP"). The MWSP is an outreach program that focuses on working with employers and employees concerning injuries and illnesses that occur in the workplace. The Division seeks to guarantee that injured employees obtain suitable medical treatment and are compensated for lost wages. Compensation amounts under Missouri employment law depend of whether there is temporary or permanent disability, and whether the person is partially or totally disabled.
