New Jersey Employment Law

New Jersey has their own anti-discriminating act referred to as the Law Against Discrimination (LAD). It prohibits employers from refusing to hire or asking an employee to retire based on his/her age. The Conscientious Employee Protection Act (CEPA) is known as the whistleblower's law which gives a great deal of protection to employees who report illegal or unethical workplace activities. Even if the employee is not correct he/she is still protected. He/she just needs to have an objectively reasonable belief that there is some type of improper activity occurring at work. NJ has its own Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) which allows an employee to take up to a six week leave for personal reasons as having a baby. He/she must have worked in NJ for at least 20 calendar weeks and earned $7200 or more a year.
