North Carolina Employment Law

The Department of Labor ("DOL") is a federal agency that enforces laws applicable to employers and employees. As a whole, the DOL enforces over 180 federal laws including the Fair Labor Standards Act ("FLSA") which regulates issues such as wages and work hours of employees. Many states, including North Carolina, have enacted their own labor laws to bolster the protections afforded by Federal regulations. North Carolina employment law is governed by the Wage and Hour Bureau which enforces the N.C. The North Carolina employment law regulations include minimum wage and overtime payment protections, youth employment protections for persons under 18 years of age, procedural standards for employers to maintain when administering drug tests, and establishes license and certification programs for certain employees.
