Office Of Labor Relations

Most large organizations and state and federal entities have an office of labor relations (OLR) that serves as a liaison between the organization and labor unions. Many OLRs offer an employee assistance program (EAP), a workplace-based program that provides counseling services for their employees and their families in stress management, alcoholism and drug addiction, mental health, and family difficulties. Housing and Urban Development (HUD), a federal program that assists low-income Americans with housing, has an OLR that enforces and oversees the compliance of Federal labor legislation, including the payment of minimum wage, of housing services that are subsidized by HUD. City governments usually manage an OLR under the auspices of that city's Mayor's Office; the governor's office of state governments usually runs their OLRs. OLRs also often assist in collective bargaining between an organization and labor unions, as well as attempt to promote effective dispute resolution and productive relationships between labor and management.
