Unemployment

Unemployment is at a high level in the US due to the mortgage crisis and it's economic impact. Fortunately, almost all employees that are laid-off or otherwise terminated from their job are covered by unemployment benefits. Filing a claim for unemployment benefits can usually be done online, via your states employment website.

Due to the high number of unemployment claims being filed, more than half will be denied. Fortunately, there is an appeals process, whereby en employee or his attorney will appeal to the employment board in an effort to reverse the original decision. Even if the initial appeal is denied, there are further options for reversing the unemployment compensation decision. Talk to an employment lawyer to find out what options are available in your state.
