Vacation Laws

While there are no federal laws governing vacation time, there are varying state laws that do deal with the topic. The areas that are covered by law do include national holidays such as Independence Day, Memorial Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Typically, however, vacation time is negotiated between individual employees and their employers. Most employers do provide vacation time of some sort, with the amount of time of paid vacation usually growing according to how long an employee has been with the company. US Federal law does protect workers who have been fired and have accrued (unused) vacation time, and the employer must pay out the number of days the worker had saved.
