Wisconsin Employment Law

There are three state agencies that oversee the workforce in the state of Wisconsin: the Department of Workforce Development (DWD), the Employment Relations Commission (WERC), and the Labor and Industry Review Commission (LIRC). The DWD provides job services, job training, and employment assistance. It also assists workers with disabilities in finding jobs, helps welfare recipients' transition into work, and protects and enforces workers' rights. WERC mediates disputes between employers and employees and negotiates contract disputes. The LIRC, an independent administrative agency, decides appeals in court cases surrounding unemployment insurance, worker's compensation, and equal rights.
