Wisconsin Labor Law

Wisconsin, like all other US states, is subject to the same federal laws monitored by the US Department of Labor. Wisconsin employers must pay time-and-a-half to their workers who work over forty hours a week. The Wisconsin Department of Workplace Development is the entity that establishes a living wage in the state and is the entity to which workers submit claims against employers who violate workers' rights. Workers with disabilities, whose disabilities interfere with their ability to work, may be paid at a lower rate than non-disabled workers. Employees who work at factories or business involved in retail trade must be provided at least one 24-hour rest period every seven days. Wisconsin also has strict laws restricting child labor. Minors must be provided with at least a thirty-minute meal break when working longer than six hours; Wisconsin law recommends that adults receive the same breaks but does not require it.
