Can I be fired for blogging and posting opinions on my personal online social networking sites outside of work?
Recently, I have been recieving some indirect threats from my manager of being fired for certain social media sites I use, and things I have been posting (facebook, etc.). I also have a personal blog which I express my personal opinions on a variety of matters. Is there any laws that protect internet privacy outside of work?

Internet privacy and laws and regulations regarding what you post online are continously going under development. For example, there have been several Myspace, Craigslist related cases where certain actions took place online, which later led to suicides or murders. There have also been cases where self incriminating videos were posted online clearly exhibiting illegal activities (which is completely ridiculous for the poster to have done in the first place).
This would ultimately depend on the structure of your company. Is it a private company (typically at will termination for any reason), is there a Union Contract (which would protect you from wrongful termination reasons), or do you work for the Government (generally more protection, privacy matters like this are protected by the 1st ammendment).
Also, what exactly are you posting online? Are you doing this during work hours which is interfering from your primary duties? Does it seem highly illegal or immoral? You should consult the details of your situation with your attorney, and maybe speak to your manager or HR in private regarding this matter.
