Sooner or later, most employees will experience a lay-off, or other form of employer termination of their job. Especially during difficult economic times, these occurrences are becoming more frequent. US Employment laws protect employees from termination under unfair circumstances. However, employers may protect themselves by using an employment termination form .

What is Wrongful Termination?

Wrongful termination occurs whenever an employee is let go, or fired, for reasons specified by US laws. The reasons vary widely for different situations, but usually fall into several categories covered under employment law. These include:

  • Against anti-discrimination laws
  • Due to denied sexual advances
  • In violation of employment agreements
  • Violating labor laws
  • As retaliation for complaint against the employer

There are more than just the categories above, but these are the most common. It can be difficult to prove a wrongful termination suit in court, so it's best to talk to an employment lawyer before taking any legal action.
